A dark journey through Kyoto
Onimusha: Way of the Sword takes you to Edo-period Kyoto, where mysterious clouds of Malice have transformed the historic capital. Shrines, temples and other familiar locations become part of an ominous world, with every stage filled with mystery, danger and intrigue.
The path of Miyamoto Musashi
The story follows the passionate samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who arrives in Kyoto determined to prove that he is unmatched in the way of the sword. His journey soon takes an unexpected turn, leading him from one brutal battle to another as he searches for his true reason to fight.
Harness the Oni Gauntlet
Musashi wields the mystical Oni Gauntlet, an artefact that grants its bearer power beyond human limits. Alongside providing the strength required to defeat the Genma, the gauntlet can absorb their souls and convert them into a source of power to further enhance its wearer.
Blood-soaked sword battles
Combat centres around intense close-quarters action and swordsmanship. Musashi must battle not only monstrous Genma but also formidable opponents whose martial prowess rivals his own, leading to tense and bloody duels to the death.
The Genma invasion
Normally dwelling in the lowest depths of hell, the Genma have been brought into the world of the living by the Malice surrounding Kyoto. Their relentless atrocities have plunged the capital into fear and panic, turning the city into a dangerous and unpredictable battleground.
Historic locations transformed by dark fantasy
The game's Kyoto features the historic capital's many shrines, temples and recognisable landmarks, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Under the influence of Malice, these locations take on an eerie and foreboding appearance, blending Japanese history with the game's dark fantasy setting.
