KNYGA Heidi Newbauer Statues of Easter Island

The statues of Easter Island, or moai, are some of the world's most amazing wonders. Carved up to 1,000 years ago, the huge head-shaped stones surrounded by the southern Pacific Ocean speak to the artistic skills of the Rapa Nui people. This elementary-level introduction, filled with vibrant photos and factual text, examines the rock statues and how they were shaped and moved into place. The figures' significance in history and why they were crafted are also included. A Wonder Spotlight features the island's Birdman cult. Captions, on-page definitions, additional resources, and an index support young readers.
