KNYGA Eve Makis Where the Earth Holds Secrets

Where the Earth Holds Secrets is a touching political mystery and women's fiction about Nuray, a journalist, who, in the process of reuniting the excavated bones from Cyprus’s civil conflict of 1974, exposes distressing family secrets best left buried.Nuray is a relentless journalist, driven by a fierce commitment to uncover the truth. When she stumbles upon new evidence about the whereabouts of a man who disappeared during the brutal conflict in Cyprus decades ago, she cannot resist reopening a case long thought buried. But not everyone shares her determination. Haris, Lazarides’ son, has spent his life trying to move on from the past. Haunted by years of unanswered questions and suffering, he believes that reopening old wounds will only bring more pain – for himself, his family, and for a divided country still struggling to heal. Meanwhile, Elena, Haris’ daughter, is at her own crossroads. A young archaeologist living in the UK, Elena has recently ended a long-term relationship. To reconnect with her roots and piece together her fractured family history, she seizes an opportunity to work on an archaeological project in Cyprus – unaware that the journey will unearth much more than she bargained for. In Cyprus, Elena meets Lukas, a handsome archaeologist who takes her to the Church of the Missing. There, among the fading photos of the disappeared, she finds the face of her missing grandfather, Lazarides. Despite her growing feelings for Lucas, Elena can’t trust him with her true quest, and Lucas is better at digging up the dead than expressing his own emotions. A witness comes forward, claiming to have seen soldiers forcibly handling Lazarides at the very site in question on the day he vanished. But as Nuray’s investigation gains momentum, it is halted by mysterious threats. Driven by a need for answers, Elena trespasses onto the farmer’s property under the cover of darkness, where she discovers a crucial piece of evidence: a wedding ring, engraved with initials. Could this be a clue to what happened on the day of her grandfather’s disappearance? Yet powerful forces conspire to keep the truth hidden. Someone is desperate to keep the past buried – but who, and why? As Nuray, Elena, and the Lazarides family are drawn deeper into a web of secrets, their personal quests for closure intertwine with the island’s struggle for peace and reconciliation. As the dead begin to tell their secrets, will Elena dig deep enough to uncover the truth of her own family, and perhaps of her own heart.
