KNYGA David Collings Bridges and Sustainability

Bridges and Sustainability: Best practice for design, maintenance, and replacement provides a comprehensive evaluation of sustainability topics related to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of bridges. It addresses critical challenges of achieving sustainability in bridge engineering, offering valuable insights and practical guidance. Given their longevity, achieving sustainability for bridges involves tackling climate change, ensuring resilience, and cutting carbon emissions to meet net zero goals. This book offers targeted advice on resilience and sustainability for bridges, including: risk and resilience assessments at both global and local scales, with examples for various bridge sizes, types, and locations methods to measure and improve circularity, including updates to standard specifications and lifetime data for different materials and bridge types green bridges that support nature and enhance biodiversity the social value of bridges, their contribution to community well-being, and how designers can incorporate social value into their projects integrating sustainability themes, demonstrating how links between carbon and circularity, carbon and nature, and circularity and service life can inform better material choices and bridge designs. Bridges and Sustainability: Best Practice for Design, Maintenance, and Replacement is an essential guide for students, practitioners, and researchers dedicated to building a sustainable future.
