KNYGA Bruce Robertson Power Up Your Curriculum

Great teaching starts with a great curriculum. But how good is the curriculum across your team or school, and how can this be made even better? Through a focus on principles, pitfalls and practical approaches, this book unpacks these questions. We will start by exploring the relationship between knowledge and skills, including why a 'knowledge-based, skills-oriented' curriculum is fundamental to raising attainment for all and closing background-related attainment gaps. Then, we will turn our attention to 'meta-skills' - such as critical thinking, problem solving and creativity - and discuss why, counterintuitively, the best way to teach these isn't to focus on them directly. Finally, we will highlight practical approaches to support the development of a great curriculum in every school.Get ready to Power Up Your Curriculum!'If your school is embarking on a curriculum review, read this first!' - Daisy Christodoulou'This fantastic guide should be required reading for teachers and curriculum designers alike' - Dr Jim Heal'This is a generous, thoughtful and highly practical book' - Mary Myatt'Cuts through the noise and gets to what actually matters: clarity, precision, and purpose' - Professor Tom Bennett'This book crosses the theory-practice gap that swallows so much educational writing, and it does so without condescension and without jargon' - Professor Carl Hendrick'This is another superb book from Bruce, and as we've come to expect from him, it's clear, practical, and informed by the latest evidence from education research' - Robin Macpherson
