The DisplayPort to HDMI cable works unidirectionally, the cable contains an electronic DP -> HDMI converter inside which can only convert the signal in the DP -> HDMI direction.
Always connect the cable so that the video signal source is the DisplayPort connector and the HDMI connector is on the display, TV or monitor.
